As for Ram Mohan, working in the field of automation is one of his greatest passions. “I joined this industry 30 years back and it has never disappointed me. The amount of innovations and changes it has brought into human life is enormous,” says Mohan excitedly. In the meantime RPA, today is used to automate rule-based, repetitive tasks having columns in IT, business process and cyber security domains.  He points out, “As machine learning and AI technologies get democratized, it will be integrated with RPA allowing for more intelligent process automation. From simple rule-based automation RPA will metamorphosis to IRPA to Near-Human like RPA.” And neither is RPA error proof but it shifts the daily workload to managerial- and communication-based positions, which leads to a more satisfying career for professionals. “It is only an assumption that RPA is completely safe from the types of errors that plague humans,” admits Mohan. “While robots don’t have the issues with distraction and “leaves” that humans do, their errors often come in the form of translating things literally. Unlike a human worker, who can make adjustments based on context, logic, and reasoning, RPA translates each command as it is written. Even with advancements in machine learning, bugs are possible, which means professionals will always be needed to verify the work performed by software bots. But yes, the human errors are reduced when you assign a repetitive standard operating procedure to RPA.” He continued, “The major blockers that could impede the growth of RPA are the inability to scale solutions at levels businesses need by RPA tools, integration with other applications, scarce technical skills, challenging change management issues and governance issues. Combination of these issues, according to EY report about 30% to 50% of RPA implementation failed,” carries on Mohan. “In addition, many of operations leaders are discovering that they do not have the skills in-house to set-up automation CoEs and are turning to third parties to help them to put them on the right track.  The issue here is, the so-called RPA experts are struggling to scale up talent bases that can understand the technology and deal with considerable change management tensions within their clients.  We could see they are making a hasty exit from the client as they do not have the expertise to roll-out effective implementation and change management programs.”

Apart from work he loves cooking and enjoys watching thriller movies. “I am a good cook. It is a great stress buster,” shares Mohan.
