Netty Sri Rejeki: Driving Indonesia’s Green Logistics Revolution

Trailblazing Female Logistics Leader | Arrakasta Nusalink Logistik (ANL)

In the world of logistics — a sector often defined by speed, precision, and steel — few names command respect quite like Netty Sri Rejeki, the visionary founder and driving force behind Arrakasta Nusalink Logistik (ANL). From humble beginnings in Indonesia’s heavy equipment transport industry to pioneering a new era of sustainable logistics, Netty’s journey is one of resilience, reinvention, and relentless purpose.

Today, as the Founder and Managing Director of ANL, Netty leads her company with a clear vision: to make logistics not only faster and more reliable but also greener. Under her leadership, ANL has grown into a trusted logistics partner for some of Indonesia’s largest heavy equipment dealers, known for its commitment to customer satisfaction and environmental responsibility. “Honest, Accurate, Fast, Trust” — ANL’s motto — is more than a slogan; it is the foundation upon which Netty has built her legacy.

A Journey Forged by Persistence and Purpose

Netty’s professional story began in 1993, when she joined a major heavy equipment dealer in Indonesia. That first step into logistics sparked a fascination that would define her career. “To me, project logistics is fascinating,” she says. “Every delivery has its own challenges — it’s never the same twice.”

Her entrepreneurial spirit first emerged in 2001, when she founded her own heavy equipment transport company. Though the venture eventually closed, it set the stage for what was to come. Over the next decade, she honed her expertise through roles in shipping and corporate logistics before taking another bold leap — founding a series of transport companies, each one a learning experience that refined her business acumen.

“I’ve failed, closed businesses, and started over more than once,” Netty recalls with candor. “But I never saw those as endings — they were lessons. Persistence and consistency are the real keys to survival.”

After several attempts and a brief retirement in the UK, Netty founded ANL in late 2018 — her fourth and most successful logistics company to date. What began as a modest operation quickly became one of Indonesia’s most dynamic players in project and heavy equipment transportation.

When the COVID-19 pandemic struck in 2020, most businesses slowed down or shuttered operations. Netty, however, made a counterintuitive move — she doubled down. “Everyone else was closing their business by the end of 2021,” she recalls. “Instead, I injected more capital and bought a brand-new fleet. At the time, it felt risky — even foolish. But looking back, it was one of the best decisions I ever made.”

That bold decision positioned ANL for explosive growth as the Indonesian economy rebounded. Today, the company operates three modern fleets and is preparing to expand further in the coming years. “Every job without a complaint from our customers is an achievement,” she smiles. “That’s how I measure success.”

Building a Greener Future for Logistics

At the core of ANL’s identity is its commitment to sustainability — a cause that has become deeply personal for Netty. As a participant in the UN Global Compact (UNGC), ANL aligns its operations with global sustainability principles, integrating environmentally friendly practices into every stage of its logistics chain.

“Our vision is to be a trusted and leading partner in logistics and transportation, promoting sustainable development and green economic growth,” says Netty. “For me, it’s about paying back my sins to nature — and creating a future where logistics doesn’t come at the cost of the planet.”

Under her leadership, ANL has adopted cutting-edge technologies, including a carbon emission calculator that enables the company to track and reduce its environmental footprint across operations. This data-driven approach helps optimize routes, minimize fuel consumption, and promote low-emission transportation solutions.

As Head of Green Action and HGSE at WiLAT (Women in Logistics and Transport), Netty has also become a vocal advocate for Green Logistics — an emerging movement that seeks to reconcile the demands of economic growth with environmental responsibility. Through webinars, mentorship, and community initiatives, she inspires young professionals, especially women, to embrace sustainability as a core business value.

“Green business isn’t just a trend; it’s a responsibility,” she explains. “If we don’t act now, future generations will pay the price. As leaders, we must set the example by adopting energy-efficient technologies and promoting awareness.”

Her long-term goal? To see Indonesia’s logistics sector evolve into a high-tech, environmentally sustainable network that supports the country’s archipelagic economy. “In the next 20 years, I believe Indonesia’s logistics industry will efficiently cover the nation with cutting-edge technology,” Netty says. “I see myself as a mentor and adviser to the next generation who will lead that transformation.”

Leading with Heart: The Affiliative Approach

Leadership, for Netty, is not about hierarchy — it’s about harmony. Her affiliative leadership style focuses on building trust, collaboration, and mutual respect within her team. “I believe in hands-on practice,” she explains. “I teach my team how to think, how to act, how to recognize risks, and how to find solutions quickly. I encourage them to communicate, collaborate, and grow together.”

Her leadership philosophy is grounded in the idea that a strong team is the foundation of a strong company. “Loyal customers are made, not born,” she often says. “The same goes for loyal employees. If you invest in your people, they’ll invest in your company.”

It’s an approach that has earned her deep respect not only from her staff but also from peers in the logistics industry — a field traditionally dominated by men. Yet, when asked about the gender barriers she’s faced, Netty shrugs off the question with characteristic humility. “I never had challenges communicating or coordinating with anyone in this industry,” she says. “If you know your job, you earn respect. It’s that simple.”

Her calm confidence and collaborative spirit have made her a role model for women in logistics. Through WiLAT, she mentors aspiring female leaders, emphasizing the importance of consistency, confidence, and integrity. “My secret is simple,” she says. “Never give up. Be determined, be confident, and work hard. The rest will follow.”

When asked how organizations can better support women in logistics, her answer is equally practical: “Education, empowerment, and mentoring — that’s the formula. Give women access to knowledge, and they’ll create their own opportunities.”

“In logistics, every move matters. If we can move goods responsibly, we can move the world forward - one shipment at a time.”

Innovation, Resilience, and the Human Touch

Innovation has always been at the heart of Netty’s strategy. From implementing digital tools to adopting sustainability frameworks, she continually pushes ANL toward greater efficiency and responsibility. Yet, she insists that technology alone is not enough — the human element remains irreplaceable.

“Technology makes us faster and smarter,” she explains. “But logistics is still about people — the drivers, the planners, the customers. Machines can’t replace trust.”

That belief has guided ANL’s customer-centric approach. The company’s motto — “Honest, Accurate, Fast, Trust” — is more than operational doctrine; it’s a reflection of Netty’s personal ethics. Transparency, reliability, and accountability form the backbone of every partnership.

For Netty, leadership is not about commanding from the top but growing from within. Her proudest moments are not marked by awards or headlines but by satisfied clients and problem-free deliveries. “Every job that ends without a complaint is an achievement,” she says. “That’s when I know my team did their best.”

Her professional philosophy extends into her personal life as well. Away from the bustle of logistics hubs, Netty finds peace in her garden — her “second life,” as she fondly calls it. “Gardening helps me destress,” she says. “It’s my reminder that growth takes patience, care, and consistency — just like business.”

Mentorship, Legacy, and the Road Ahead

With three decades of experience behind her and a growing reputation as a green logistics pioneer, Netty now sees her role evolving from operator to mentor. “My next goal is to create more job opportunities and help produce a generation with great skills,” she says. “I want to share what I’ve learned — especially about sustainability — with the younger generation.”

Her advice to aspiring leaders, especially women, is simple yet profound: “Be consistent, do your job properly, and uphold safety and business manners. Respect your work, and others will respect you.”

She also emphasizes the importance of lifelong learning — a principle she lives by. Netty holds multiple certifications, including SCM BNSP (Supply Chain Management) Certification and CMILT (Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport). She has also studied Climate Change and Sustainability at the Open University in the UK and continues her studies at the United Nations University.

“I believe education never ends,” she says. “The more we learn, the more we can give back.”

When asked about the book that has most influenced her leadership philosophy, she cites Simon Sinek’s Leaders Eat Last. “It reminded me that leadership is about service,” she reflects. “You lead best when you put your people first.”

The Green Trailblazer of Indonesian Logistics

In a sector defined by machinery, schedules, and cargo, Netty brings something rare — a human touch anchored in integrity and sustainability. Her story is not merely one of business success but of perseverance, purpose, and environmental consciousness.

Through ANL, she has shown that profitability and sustainability are not mutually exclusive — they are, in fact, partners in progress. By championing Green Logistics, mentoring young professionals, and leading by example, Netty is redefining what leadership looks like in Indonesia’s logistics industry.

As she looks toward the future, her focus remains on nurturing the next generation of logisticians and pushing Indonesia closer to a green economy. “In logistics, every move matters,” she says with quiet conviction. “If we can move goods responsibly, we can move the world forward — one shipment at a time.”

In an age where the race for efficiency often overshadows ethics, Netty Sri Rejeki stands as proof that the most powerful form of leadership is not found in control, but in care.

“Never give up, be consistent, and stay true to your values,” Netty says. “Because in the end, it’s not just about moving things — it’s about moving people, ideas, and the planet toward something better.”
