Meet True REST Float Spa, a float spa franchise, leading the Float Pod Revolution

Franchises

Nick and Holly Janicki seeking a holistic way of life came across floatation therapy for the first time in Sedona, 2006. It was an unknown business back then. The positive impact it had on them made them aware of its need world-wide and hence its economic potential. It began as a 30-pages long business plan built on extensive industry and market research that they initially shared with their family and friends. They went on to buy four float pods from a manufacturer in England and soon after opened doors to their first facility in Scottsdale, Arizona. It took off.

Founded in 2010, True REST Float Spa is a membership-based float spa that offers floatation therapy–a way to relieve pain, increase relaxation, and gain better sleep through a luxury float experience. Within a few years, True RESTFloat Spa became the world’s largest float spa brand with 78 awarded locations, including 34 open locations after they started franchising in 2014. With another 15 opening this year across the country, it is on its way to servicing 1 million floats.

Floating provides a sensory and gravity-free environment that restricts external stimulus, so the mind and body can reach a deep state of relaxation and natural healing.

True REST: The Science of Feeling Great

And why shouldn’t it? Floating provides a sensory and gravity-free environment that restricts external stimulus, so the mind and body can reach a deep state of relaxation and natural healing. For the uninitiated, float therapy is a powerful tool for wellness, relaxation, pain relief, and better sleep. Floating allows clients to float effortlessly in a float tank or float pod. The float pod is 8 feet long and over 4 feet tall. It is filled with 10 inches of water and 1,000 pounds of Epsom salts- even denser than the Dead Sea. An hour of zero gravity and zero distractions will decrease the production of cortisol, a stress hormone, leaving a person feeling refreshed and serene after the float. The brain enters the theta brain-wave state, associated with deep sleep and dreaming. Epsom salts which are great for the skin, hair, and nails, act as an exfoliant aiding joint pain, easing stressed muscles and naturally restoring the body. “I am motivated seeing firsthand how powerful floatation therapy is every single day. We have members who are in excruciating pain and after their float sessions, they have a new life. We truly believe that our mission is to share this holistic, natural therapy with the world,” says Nick Janicki, Founder, and President, TrueREST Float Spa.

However, floating can be a vulnerable experience. Nick realized this early on and made it their goal to create a warm, luxurious and inviting atmosphere in which their members could feel comfortable and secure. Hence every True REST Float Spa provides a spa-like environment and takes a wellness approach toward total mind and body healing. The spa features up to six float pods available for individual appointments and also offers an oxygen bar and an oasis room for its clients. True REST makes sure their clients are in 100 percent control of their float experience with optional light, music and lid control and attends them with highly professional, calm and well-informed speech and demeanor. “True REST is committed to providing the highest quality flotation therapy experience to all members,” says Nick. “We stand behind our work. We are the float gurus. We are experts at what we do. We have the tools and the training to deliver on the promises we make. If we fall short, we make it right. We are always looking for ways to improve our performance and business.”

Enabling People

In fact, Nick, looking back admits to being a bit skeptical of the method of franchising to grow their business as he was afraid of losing their essence or vision in the process. But when the Janickis met Jim Rowe, CEO of True REST Franchising, LLC, their vision for a franchise perfectly meshed like it was meant to be. “The franchise was founded on the best practices of open communication and two-way transparency. True REST Franchising works collectively with franchise partners to continually seek ways to grow revenue– and keep expenses low, proudly offering a platform where all opinions and ideas are heard and shared,” shares Nick. He believes seeing clearly is a great way for prospective franchisees to understand the cash flow and operations of any business. At True REST, the Franchise Disclosure Document includes annually updated actual gross revenue for all locations that have been in business for at least 12 months. Item 19 also shares actual expenses and net profit after expenses. “Realistic expectations are important when you start your business and knowing how other True REST franchisees succeed with the same tools and support is an encouraging start!”, asserts Nick. He further adds at True REST ‘Be In Business for Yourself, Not By Yourself’. As along with systematic training, True REST offers marketing and operational support to their franchise partners through an interactive online portal for the team training, site support visits, monthly webinars, prescribed operation manual and an annual conference featuring classroom sessions and roundtable conference. They also provide exclusive franchisor support to each franchisee which enlists- in-depth support before and after launch, territory selection, lease support, standard plan/build-out specifications, access to content-rich True REST intranet and portal, on-site assistance and telephone, email guidance, on-site business consultation, periodic advertising, marketing and providing promotional materials. They view the growth and development of their employees not merely as a means of increasing profit but as an end in itself.

Its a experience that you must experience

The same echoes in what the franchise holders say about True REST Float Spa. Tim Scott and Jamison Whaley have two True REST Float Spa locations in Perrysburg, Ohio and Toledo, Ohio. Scott is a doctor of osteopathic medicine and Whaley’s background is in occupational therapy. They explored other business concepts together and ultimately decided on True REST because of the multitude of benefits they can offer their community through flotation therapy. “Floating for me was an experience that is very hard to describe. I knew that when I finished my first float, something had happened. I didn’t really know what to expect at first. True REST Float Spa is something special. The people who are behind the franchise, behind the scenes and on the front lines – all the way from the financial standpoint to the franchisees themselves, they are what sets the industry apart,” says Whaley.

“Franchising was a way for me to get involved in something that I don’t have formal training in. It allowed me to branch off into an industry like health and wellness that I don’t have any personal experience in. Also, I’ve never run a business. I like True REST franchising because it immediately welcomed me into a family. I’m given a plan on how to succeed, and I know that I have people behind me 24/7. Generally, if you go into a franchise, you want some help in running a business. You don’t want to start something from the ground up. That’s why I was interested in True REST Float Spa. First and foremost, I love float therapy. I love what it has to offer. That’s what first attracted me to this brand. Secondly, when I came out and met with the True REST people, I knew that it was going to be a good fit. It’s a family-type atmosphere. It’s been like that since day one. I can’t believe the amount of support we get. In terms of having someone I can contact day or night,” says Scott. “Anytime I need help with any type of question, I get not only a response, but a good response.”

In return, True REST Float Spa expects their franchise owners to serve their members with the same level of quality, respect, value and professionalism in order to expand their business profitably through constant innovation and creative marketing, all the while exhibiting a superior character in the industry. “We aim to be recognized as a company that responsibly offers a service to its members, franchisees, employees, communities, business partners and the interests of our planet,” concludes Nick.
