In today’s fast-paced business world, cybersecurity has taken precedence. With an alarming increase in security breaches and related incidents, it is quickly becoming a critical business requirement that cannot be ignored. The financial and reputational losses caused by cyber incidents are irreversible, and the wisest thing to do is to avert them. Rising above this cyber-fury is NTT Security Division, a part of NTT Ltd. a leading, global technology services company. Led by Sr. Vice President, Ron Newman, NTT with its best-in-class technology is helping organizations stay on top of such incidents while focusing on business development and operational excellence.
In an interview with Aspioneer, Ron Newman shared some insights about how NTT is working towards making its vision a reality.
Creating a secure digital world
Ron Newman: “NTT has been in business since 1985 with the company evolving through mergers and acquisitions. We have 6 Security Operations Centers located worldwide, analyzing billions of logs each day. NTT holistically enables client’s cybersecurity strategy & execution to create secure digital businesses & secure customer experiences. With a focus on Extended Detection and Response (XDR), NTT intelligence-driven security services enable our clients to better manage the risk of cyber-attacks. We cater to businesses of all sizes, focusing on industries such as finance, manufacturing, healthcare, utilities, transportation, energy, oil & gas.”
The goal is to protect
Ron Newman: “Evaluating security controls to holistically determine what an acceptable level of risk tolerance is, the first step to a sound cybersecurity strategy. Having a baseline of your existing threat landscape, determine priorities and evaluate where your organization stands compared to other industry peers is a minimum expectation. Once this has been aligned with the corporate business strategy, it must be executed with 3–5 year plan. Data breaches and cyber-attacks happen daily, so having a strong Digital Forensics and Incident Response (DFIR) plan in place for an unprecedented event, ahead of time, is smart planning.
NTT is on a mission to help clients in the face of an ever-evolving threat landscape. If you look at the top five economies in the world, if cybercrime were a country it would be the 3rd largest economy. As cyber threats and attacks become more sophisticated, our goal is to help our clients maintain the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of their digital infrastructure. NTT fulfills this mission by being a global security services partner to our clients across professional services, consulting, and managed services.”

Spotting the problem. Solving the problem
Ron Newman: “Ransomware, data breaches, and phishing attacks are the top three cyber risks that companies face today in my view. Inadequate cybersecurity employee education, improper or delayed patching, and lack of proper backups are usually the causes. These are what we call – known vulnerabilities. Mitigating them requires having a strong understanding of the current threat landscape and a detailed plan to address high-priority threats in addition to addressing known vulnerabilities. With our advisory consulting services, we are constantly assisting our clients in protecting their critical business systems. We continually research new ransomware variants impacting clients. We also help address the talent shortages in this industry by maintaining 2,000 cyber security professionals, so that our clients continue to work, as an extension of their team.”
Products that empower
Ron Newman: “What we consistently hear from clients across all our brands is that they want to work with fewer providers across the whole range of services we offer. We try to execute in that direction to make it easy to work with NTT across all our product lines. Our brand is represented in our logo: The large loop in the logo is based on the Fibonacci sequence, which creates constant motion. This represents that the company is always moving forward, innovating and transforming. The small loop at the top of the logo represents that the company is listening. The company transforms based upon what customers think and are influenced by. The third aspect is that the company makes sure it’s listening to the requirements of society and how it makes a positive impact on the world in which it exists.
Our products comprise 4 core offering areas to address the needs of Cloud Security, OT/IoT Security, AppSec, and Data Center Security:

Aiming to be the best
Ron Newman: “Our latest success story is with a client, Konica Minolta, and how our joint solution with a sister organization, NTT Data, allowed our client to perform a series of advanced penetration tests to identify vulnerabilities in the new Konica Minolta printer line. As a result, they were able to make code changes to enhance the security of the devices and future-proof their products. These steps enable them to proactively allay buyer fears about potential security risks, with the use of third-party testing increasing their credibility with partner channels and end customers. In addition, the testing and validation now allow them to expand their product reach into sensitive markets. By helping our clients stay at the top of their game we aim to become the world’s leading Global Security Services Provider.”
