|

Footprints on the Moon Consulting Services LLC. was established in 2021 in the Southern California region with a nationwide presence remotely by Dr. Julius C. Wiseman III, MBA, MPS, and a Lieutenant in the Medical Service Corps of the United States Navy. Footprints on the Moon’s vision is to “Increase the overall representation of diversity in healthcare as professionals.” Their mission is to mentor, educate, prepare, and guide youth from underserved communities into the medical and dental sciences, as well as various other healthcare professions. Their tagline says it all “How can the sky be the limit when there are footprints on the Moon?”

As Julius shares, “At Footprints on the Moon Consulting Services, our goal is to help young people from underserved places into the medical and dental sciences and various other healthcare professions such as Audiology, Aerospace Physiology, Entomology, Environmental/Global Health, Psychology, Healthcare Administration, Healthcare Information Management, Medical Technology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Industrial Hygiene, Optometry, Pharmacy, Physician Assistant, Podiatry, Clinical Dietetics, and Radiation Health.” Their goal is to raise awareness about the different professional healthcare graduate school occupations and opportunities available to underserved communities fostering diversity, equality, and inclusion.

Early Opportunities, Motivations & Mentors: Life Growing Up

Julius was born in San Diego, CA, and raised in District 4. District 4 is known as Southeast San Diego. While all is not bad in Southeast San Diego, the area has long struggled with crime, substance abuse, gang violence, and poverty. The San Diego public school system provided him with opportunities to be mentored by his teachers. However, like many others, he had never heard of the many opportunities and occupations that existed aside from those associated with the labor force. When Julius was 17 years old, he enlisted in the United States Navy. The Navy provided him with a front-row seat to see the numerous pathways that he could take in his career. It also provided Julius with opportunities to expand his worldview through travel, and various technical and academic challenges. The values that have been instilled in him have been those by example. He has benefitted from being able to see various leaders perform at high levels.

Lieutenant Wiseman joined the United States Navy in April 2001, at the age of 17, in San Diego, California. His commands include the United States Navy Presidential Ceremonial Guard, USS CHAFEE (DDG 90), the Joint Task Force – Naval Expeditionary Guard Battalion Guantanamo Bay, the Naval Medical Logistics Command, the Naval Expeditionary Intelligence Command, the Mobile Dive and Salvage Unit TWO, the Naval Health Clinic Corpus Christi, the 1st Medical Battalion, and the Naval Talent Acquisition Group Southwest. He has served four deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. He graduated second in his boot camp class, was appointed to the Presidential Ceremonial Guard in Washington, D.C., and was named Sailor of the Year in 2011, 2012, and 2014.

As Julius shares, “After 22 years of service as a healthcare professional, I realized that there was a void of children with backgrounds like my own in medicine. This led to me wanting to be the change agent that I wanted to see, thus creating a business that exposed underprivileged students with numerous educational accesses to opportunities that I did not receive as a child. Footprints on the Moon is largely marketed through social media. Starting this company was challenging due to the uniqueness of its purpose. There are many other organizations and businesses that focus on science, technology, engineering, and math at large, however, to my recollection there are none that provide the services that my company does. The company currently is servicing the needs of over 5,000 students within three school districts in the Southern California region.”

Footprints On The Moon: Disrupting The School-To-Prison Pipeline In Underserved Communities

Footprints On The Moon provides healthcare professionals with educational consultation and mentorship to youth in underserved communities. The vision is to inspire underserved youth to aspire to want to become physicians, dentists, and healthcare professionals. The company currently is servicing the needs of over 5,000 students within three school districts in the Southern California region.

In 2022, Footprints on the Moon conducted approximately 30 student workshops and speaking engagements showcasing professionals that represented the various aforementioned occupations and gave away $10,000.00 in Collegiate Scholarships to high school seniors on their way to college. Additionally, they held the inaugural “Marcus Eugene Wiseman Backpack Giveaway,” giving away 200 backpacks, and 10 bicycles, and providing a mobile petting zoo to underserved students. Julius Wiseman has volunteered over 200 hours of community service in the Alpha Male Program. This program seeks to disrupt the grade school-to-prison pipeline in underserved communities. Julius also is a sitting Board Member of the San Diego County Parks and Recreation Society, where he creates opportunities for underserved communities to participate in educational park field trips focused on science, technology, engineering, math, and environmental awareness.

Footprints on the Moon will host the inaugural “20 Under 20” Gala Awards Ceremony and Scholarship Giveaway this summer. "At Footprints on the Moon Consulting Services, our goal is to help young people from underserved places into the medical and dental sciences and various other healthcare professions."

Julius shares with us, “Passions outside of work- I am a staunch advocate for higher education. I am currently enrolled in a doctoral program. I have also taught courses as a lecturer (Professor) at the University of California San Diego. I am an active-duty Naval Officer in the Medical Service Corps. My profession is Healthcare Administration. My current role is that I am the Southern California Regional Medical Officer Programs Recruiter for the United States Navy. I am a member of the American Healthcare College Executives and of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. I also sit on the Board of Directors for the San Diego County Parks and Recreation Society. All of these various roles and responsibilities allow me to be the bridge and provide access for me to coalesce with many prominent leaders in society at large. This allows me to liaise with those who have power, and leverage the relationships to provide to those in need via Footprints on the Moon.”

Julius is a big fan of former President Barack Obama, as he feels that President Obama defied many challenges in his life. As he shares, “If I could have dinner with anyone, it would be President Barack Obama, I have never witnessed someone with so much optimism. His message through his life’s work is that anyone can do anything that they want to. As long as you work hard, and stay away from cynical beliefs, your positive outlook life will always overcome the challenges that arise in your path.” When talking about the future Julius feels that the healthcare education/mentorship industry is expanding. He looks forward to seeing children who have received the services of Footprints on the Moon, matures into college graduates and healthcare professionals over the next seven years.

Ultimately, he wants his legacy to be an example of what can be achieved for young people from humble beginnings. He hopes that the legacy of Footprints on the Moon will be a key architect in helping young, underserved people launch themselves into greatness. He wants to be a part of the inspiration that aspires them to reach their zeniths.

Finally, Julius signs off by saying, “I stay abreast of what’s going on in healthcare through the Journal of Healthcare Management. I stay in tune with what’s trending socially through Sphinx Magazine.
