Christina Flach: Redefining Beauty from the Inside Out

Most Iconic Female Beauty Expert | Pretty Girl Makeup

Christina Flach doesn’t just do makeup—she transforms the way people see themselves. For over two decades, the celebrity makeup artist, entrepreneur, and philanthropist has been a quiet force in the beauty industry, working behind the scenes at red carpets, television studios, and editorial shoots while championing a philosophy that beauty should empower, not mask.

“Makeup isn’t about covering up—it’s about revealing the best version of yourself,” Flach says, her voice warm but firm. “I don’t create perfection. I create confidence.”

It’s a conviction that has guided her career, from her early days as a freelance artist to becoming the CEO of two beauty brands—Pretty Girl Makeup, a clean, vegan cosmetics line, and “I’m Too Busy”, a streamlined skincare and makeup collection designed for people who want efficacy without excess. Along the way, she’s worked with A-list celebrities, brides, CEOs, and everyday women, all with the same mission: to make them feel seen.

But Flach’s story isn’t just about lip gloss and high-profile clients. It’s about resilience, reinvention, and a belief that beauty—when done right—can be a catalyst for healing.

From Grief to Glamour: The Making of a Beauty Icon

Flach’s journey into beauty was deeply personal. Her mother, a woman of effortless elegance, was her first muse. “She had this innate sense of style, but more than that, she had kindness,” Flach recalls. “When she passed away, I found solace in makeup. It became my way of connecting with people, of making them feel loved.”

That emotional foundation shaped her approach. Unlike many in the industry who chase trends, Flach built her reputation on intuition and authenticity. “I don’t believe in overdoing it,” she says. “The best makeup enhances what’s already there.”

Her big break came in the late ’90s, when she began working with photographers and stylists in San Francisco. Word spread quickly—Flach wasn’t just talented; she was reliable, professional, and, crucially, easy to work with. “I never turned down a job,” she says. “Even the ones that didn’t pay well. Every project was a chance to learn.”

That hustle led to collaborations with major networks (including her current role as a beauty expert on NBC’s California Live), luxury brands, and celebrities who trusted her to make them look like themselves—just polished.

Pretty Girl Makeup: Beauty Without Compromise

In 1999, Flach launched Pretty Girl Makeup, a line of hydrating, anti-aging lip glosses made with clean, vegan ingredients. The brand’s ethos is simple: Every girl is a pretty girl.

“I wanted products that were good for you, not just pretty on you,” she explains. “No toxic fillers, no complicated ingredients—just high-performance formulas that feel as good as they look.”

The line was born out of frustration with an industry that often prioritizes profit over safety. “Women were putting questionable chemicals on their lips every day,” she says. “I wanted to change that.”

But Flach didn’t stop there. Recognizing the overwhelm many feels navigating skincare routines, she created “I’m Too Busy”—a minimalist, multi-use line that includes a men’s collection. “People don’t need 10 steps,” she insists. “They need three great products that work.”

"Makeup isn’t about covering up—it’s about revealing the best version of yourself."

Beauty as a Force for Good

Flach’s work extends far beyond the makeup chair. After losing her infant son, Beau, in 2007 and her husband, tennis champion Ken Flach, to sepsis in 2018, she turned grief into action.

She launched the Baby Beau and Ken Flach Educational Funds, supporting students at Oakland’s Northern Light School, a tuition-free institution serving underprivileged children. “Education was everything to Ken,” she says. “This is how I keep his spirit alive.”

She also co-founded the Beau Friedman Outdoor Classroom, teaching kids gardening and nutrition. “If children grow their own food, they’ll make healthier choices,” she says.

And as a sepsis awareness advocate, she speaks openly about the infection that took her husband’s life. “If sharing my story saves one person, it’s worth it.”

The Future of Beauty: Less Perfection, More Individuality

In an era of Instagram filters and airbrushed ideals, Flach is pushing back. “The future of beauty is realness,” she declares. “People are tired of unattainable standards. They want to see themselves represented.” Christina is also challenging outdated norms. “Beauty has an age limit. It doesn’t,” she asserts. By working with clients across all ages, she showcases the beauty of natural aging and promotes self-acceptance. Her approach emphasizes authenticity over perfection. “I don’t chase trends—I enhance timeless beauty,” Christina explains. This philosophy has garnered her a loyal clientele who value her intuitive and personalized approach to makeup artistry.

Her advice to aspiring beauty entrepreneurs? “Find your voice. Be consistent. Be kind.”

As for her legacy? She smiles. “I want people to remember how they felt in my chair—seen, strong, and beautiful, inside and out.”

For Christina Flach, that’s always been the point.

Embracing Oneself

In a world obsessed with appearances, Flach reminds us that true beauty isn’t about hiding flaws—it’s about embracing them. Whether through her makeup, her philanthropy, or her advocacy, she proves that confidence isn’t found in a palette or a potion. It’s found in feeling like the best version of yourself.

And that, perhaps, is the most iconic look of all.
