“I want to be known as a resource that helps childcare centers around the world provide better services to their communities,” says Caroline Jens, Founder of Child Care Biz Help.
Presently, Caroline does most of her work from home as most of her business operations are conducted online. However, for further support, she has employed three full-time staff members. Her potential as a mindful executive and entrepreneur has been quite evident and compelling even in her previous professional commitments. She mentions how supporting her husband while he was chasing his musical dream, brought her to a life-changing opportunity that she justified gracefully with her significant contribution in return. “After 20 years in finance, my husband joined the Army so I left my job and followed him to Texas. We spent four years there while he served. (Fun fact – when my husband served, he was the soldier on America’s Got Talent Season 3.) I was able to follow him throughout this experience and the career after that called 4Troops with Sony Music. Once his music career subsided, we returned to Wisconsin,” shares Caroline. “I got a job with an entrepreneur in Wisconsin and one of the businesses he owned was a child care center. I helped build his brand for nearly seven years as the Controller and Executive Director. The center had a high turnover rate and low enrollment, and I was able to turn it into a thriving business! In less than two years, I was able to reduce the turnover rate from 45% to under 15%, grew the business from one location to two great facilities.” In 2016, before she started her blog, Caroline also developed websites and conducted internet marketing catered specifically to the child care industry. Her first book on the same subject called P.R.O.F.I.T.S. – Childcare Success Formula, published soon after which further helped her launch the consulting business with a slingshot.
Building the company from the ground up Caroline had her fair share of initial challenges and without fail, she did everything from giving away free items, publishing a book, speaking for free to setting-up sponsor booths at conferences to get recognition in the target market. Since she has an MBA and a degree in finance with no previous knowledge of the concerned industry in terms of early education, she was often struggling to gain credibility in the eyes of the childcare center owners. She says, “I have overcome this by sharing my knowledge, speaking at conferences, giving way free webinars, and building trust with the clients I have so they will refer me. That’s exactly what she advises to all career-minded women. “The most important thing I can say is it’s not worth doing anything if you can’t find joy in it every day,” says Caroline. “If you work with joy, you can succeed at anything!” While the key recommendations are: Give value don’t always ask for something in return; love what you do because others will know if you don’t; build a strong team around you and set them up to be a bigger success than you; God first, marriage second and then career (always have a date night, and establish work boundaries); constantly learn and constantly get to know your customers.
As for her, Caroline says, “I would love to be known as someone that extended a great deal of value to those I worked with. My endgame – is to continuously grow and innovate. At this time, my desire is to level-up, year after year, and see where I can take this.”
